It began in 1950, when Antonio Merle started a small mechanical activity in the neighborhood of Villa Lynch, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. At that time, he worked in a company that manufactured industrial parts such as turning, brass, gas nozzles, automatic lathes, tooling for locks, among others. During those years, Antonio Merle began to learn more about his trade and together with his brother Jacobo Merle decided to create their own company.
Cerraduras MERLE Hnos. S.A. was founded in 1953 by Jacobo and Antonio Merle, two brothers from Yugoslavia, a German colony, who began to manufacture locks for different types of applications in metal and wooden furniture.
The first years of MERLE Hnos. SAIC locks were very difficult. They started in a small workshop they built behind a chicken coop in their house. In Villa Ballester. Province of Buenos Aires. Argentina. They made their own tools and bought their first machinery at auctions, which they conditioned for their specific needs.
Around 1961 they bought the first 10 x 30 m warehouse where they assembled and had the warehouse of all the locks manufactured. That same year, they bought new machines, achieving a production capacity of 80,000 locks per month, with a number of employees that reached 25 people.
Later, around 1970, with the collaboration of many Argentines, Cerraduras MERLE Hnos. S.A.I.C grew, expanding its factory to 2000 m2, increasing the number of employees to 80 people, investing in continuous processes of quality improvements, increasing the capacity of production and training all staff, managing to offer one of the widest and most diverse lines of self-manufactured locks that can exist on the market.
During the 1980s, Hugo Merle (Son of Jacobo Merle) took over as president and Antonio Merle (Son of Antonio Merle) took over as vice president of Cerraduras MERLE Hnos. S.A.I.C.
Hugo and Antonio's philosophy was to direct resources for business development through continuous investment in state-of-the-art machinery and industrial equipment. As well as promoting a constant appreciation of human resources within the organization.
In this way, since the 1980s, it has become the leader of the Argentine market, currently having 99% of the market share of national production.
